WTForm (What The Form)

WTForm is an extension to the django newforms library allowing the developer, in a very flexible way, to layout the form fields using fieldsets and columns WTForm was built with the well-documented [YUI Grid CSS](http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/grids/) in mind when rendering the columns and fields. This should make it easy to implement WTForm in your own applications. Here is an image of an [example form rendered with WTForm](http://www.gmta.info/files/wtform.png).

Originally posted by [akaihola](http://www.djangosnippets.org/users/akaihola/) as [snippet #169](http://www.djangosnippets.org/snippets/169/). I just redid it as a filter.

prettify html

with this middleware you can use tidy to prettify your html, just add the class to the `MIDDLEWARE_CLASSES` setting. tidy has an enormous number of options, se [Tidy Options Reference](http://tidy.sourceforge.net/docs/quickref.html) . you must have [µTidylib](http://utidylib.berlios.de/) installed.

keeptags: strip all HTML tags from output except a specified list of elements

Django has several filters designed to sanitize HTML output, but they're either too broad (striptags, escape) or too narrow (removetags) to use when you want to allow a specified set of HTML tags in your output. Thus keeptags was born. Some of the code is essentially ripped from the Django removetags function. It's not perfect--for example, it doesn't touch attributes inside elements at all--but otherwise it works well.

Prettify HTML body contents in HTTP response

This is an enhancement of snippet [#172](http://djangosnippets.org/snippets/172/). Here I use [BeautifulSoup](http://www.crummy.com/software/BeautifulSoup/) — far more easier to install through pip in a virtualenv, and possibly a bit more maintained — to format and properly indent the rendered HTML from templates. I also added a check to only tidy contents in a `DEBUG=True` environment, regarding high impact on performance while doing so in production. Last, it's compatible with Django 1.2.x.

HTML Email with Inline Attachments (images)

This will allow you to attach HTML multipart emails (HTML/text) and use inline images. In my example, I'm attaching an image that's stored as an 'attachment' to an 'event.' The file name of the attachment is called "inline.jpg" and I'm referencing it in my HTML message. I'm also attaching a VCAL file (.ics) file that has some information about an associated event.

HTML Prettifier

Tired of scrolling through hundreds of lines of code where the indentation is maddening? Here's a middleware class that prettifys your html markup so it's nice and consistently indented. Intended only for debugging, and I add it to the middleware stack conditionally on TEMPLATE_DEBUG. Requires BeautifulSoup.

Foldable Admin Interface

Have you had a rather huge database, say 50-100+ tables? Why not compress the tables you don't want to see and expand the ones that you do want to see? This template should do the trick. It uses cookies to remember which tabs you have open and which ones you have closed. This should work on .91 to current. How to install - just CP code and save as index.html toss in your media folder under /path_to_media/template_folder/admin/index.html. next download mootools and toss this into /path_to_media/js_folder/mootools.js (alternatively you could be lazy and cp mootools into the script tag of this template) A quick and dirty fix but it sure saves time trying to find the tables you are looking for.

Admin Apps Names Translation

This Snippet allows for your project's apps names to be displayed as you want in the Admin, including translations. The lists of apps and languages are created from your settings.py file. **How to use** 1st part: - Create a application called 'apps_verbose' in you project with the models.py and admin.py showed here - Create a folder inside it with named 'templatetags' with the verbose_tags.py file inside it. - Add this app to installed apps in your settings.py - If you change this app name, dont forget to correct the imports. 2nd part: - Create a folder named 'admin' in your templates folder and copy the following files form your /django/contrib/admin/templates/admin/ folder. - /app_index.html - /base.html - /change_form.html - /change_list.html - /delete_confirmation.html - /delete_selected_confirmation.html - /index.html - /object_history.html - Make the necessary changes in each file, like shown here. 3rd part: - Create translations in the Admin and enjoy.

Remove self links middleware

This simple middleware replaces all 'a href' links to the current page to the 'span' elements. This very usefule from the usability point of view. For example, user open in bowser page http://svetlyak.ru/blog/, and this middleware will replace all 'a' elements on this page, which refer to the '/blog/'. Because of this, link 'Blog' in the main menu, become a simple 'span'. Next, when user goes to the next page, a post with full comments list ('/blog/123/'), for example, the item 'Blog' in the main menu become a link again! To use this middleware, just add it to the list of middleware classes: MIDDLEWARE_CLASSES = ('utils.middleware.RemoveSelfLinks',)

PDF generation directly using HTML

This is an extract of an example for use of "pisa" <http://www.htmltopdf.org> in "django". It shows the easiest way possible to create PDF documents just using HTML and CSS. In "index" we see the definition of the output of a form in which HTML code can be typed in and then on the fly a PDF will be created. In "ezpdf_sample" we see the use of templates and contexts. So adding PDF to your existing Django project could be just a matter of some lines of code.

urlize HTML

The default Django urlize filter does not work with html nicely so here I've used an HTML parser [BeautifulSoup](http://www.crummy.com/software/BeautifulSoup/) to quickly search through each text node and run the django urlize filter on it. Optimizations could be made to include a regex in the soup.findAll() method's text argument to only search those text nodes which matched a url pattern. You could also modify the method to convert the text to urls, such as using your own custom url filter.

Fieldsets for Views

This Snippet allows a view to controle the printed forms on the templates, in a similar way to the fieldsets used by the django admin. How to Use: In the view in question, put: def some_view(request): ... fieldsets = ( (u'Title 1', {'hidden' : ('field_1', 'field_2',), 'fields' : ('field_3',)}), (u'Title 2', {'hidden' : ('field_5', 'field_6',), 'fields' : ('field_4',)}),) ) return render_to_response('some.html', {'fieldsets': fieldsets}) fieldsets = ( (None, {'hidden' : ('evento', 'colaborador',), 'fields' : ('acompanhantes',)}), ) Next, in the html just add: <form enctype="multipart/form-data" id="edit" method="post" ...> ... {% include "inc/form_snippet.html" %} ... <input type="submit" value="Submit"> </form>
