From my talk this morning at PyCon UK 2008: a very simple multiple user blog model with an admin interface configured to only allow people to edit or delete entries that they have created themselves, unless they are a super user.
Described more fully on [my blog](http://e-scribe.com/news/230), but the gist is: this model becomes a sort of mini-app in your admin, allowing you to record and track issues related to your other applications. Sorting still needs some work. Peeping middleware, that replaces active user to another one for current http request. Admin permissions required to activate, so you can place this snippet even on the production server. Very useful for debugging purposes. Wish it to be part of Django. How to use: Put this middleware after all other middlewares in the list. Then just add ?as_user=username or &as_user=username to the url, where username is the name of user whose views you want to see.

This will generically add csv exporting to your views in the admin. It will default to exporting the entire table you see (without paging). If the table only has one column, it will export the fields the the model. You can overide this functionality. This adds a checkbox for each object and three buttons to a model's change list: 1. **Delete selected:** deletes the selected objects 2. **Delete shown: ** deletes all the visible objects. For example, if you perform a search or in any way filter the list, this button deletes only objects that were filtered. 3. **Delete all: ** Deletes all instances of the model, including those not shown (if looking at a filtered list). The deletes perform no confirmation -- once you hit the buttons the models are **gone**, so maybe don't use (or add a confirmation screen) for really sensitive stuff. * uses django oldforms-admin (ie 0.96) * works fine if you include a search_fields list in the Admin class * code for the view could probably be refactored a bit :)

This jQuery javascript enables dynamic add/delete of rows in tabular inlines. It adds a "+" icon at the bottom of the inline to allow addition of new rows, and replaces the default delete checkbox with a "x" icon for deletion, giving you the possibility to add/delete rows instantly without reloading the page. In addition, it gives you drag-n-drop ordering functionality with a named position model field using jQuery UI Sortable. **Usage (see below for example):** Just include the javascript on your admin page, together with jQuery, and it'll automatically affect all tabular inlines. Optionally, also include jQuery UI Sortable and an Integer field in your inline model named "position" (or whatever you set "position_field" to), which will automatically hide the position field and enable drag-n-drop sorting. **Developed for:** * jQuery 1.3.2 * jQuery UI 1.7.1 * Django trunk (tested in Django v1.0.2) * (Might work with other versions with or without adjustments, but not tested) **Settings (in top of javascript):** * "position_field" is the name of an integer model field that is used for ordering the inline model. "Make fixture" command. Highly useful for making test fixtures. Use it to pick only few items from your data to serialize, restricted by primary keys. By default command also serializes foreign keys and m2m relations. You can turn off related items serialization with `--skip-related` option. How to use: python manage.py makefixture will display what models are installed python manage.py makefixture User[:3] or python manage.py makefixture auth.User[:3] or python manage.py makefixture django.contrib.auth.User[:3] will serialize users with ids 1 and 2, with assigned groups, permissions and content types. python manage.py makefixture YourModel[3] YourModel[6:10] will serialize YourModel with key 3 and keys 6 to 9 inclusively. Of course, you can serialize whole tables, and also different tables at once, and use options of dumpdata: python manage.py makefixture --format=xml --indent=4 YourModel[3] AnotherModel auth.User[:5] auth.Group
This is the view-code to export a database-dump (hardcoded for mysql) or a media_root dump via the admin interface. just add 2 urls patterns to call the views and a small template with a simple form to send a http-post to the views. Note: The downloads are sort of streaming. I have successfully exportet a 2GB media_root as tar-ball without major increase of ram-usage of the django-process.
**How to use:** 1. puts this code at the end of the `models.py` file who haves the User Profile class declared; 2. verify if your User Profile class has the name 'UserProfile'. If not, change the code to the right name. **About:** this snippet makes the ORM create a profile each time an user is created (or updated, if the user profile lost), including 'admin' user.
This code will add a thumbnail image to your Model's Admin list view. The code will also generate the thumb images, so the first view may be a little slow loading. This assumes you have an **ImageField** in your Model called **image**, and the field's **upload_to** directory has a subdirectory called **tiny**. You then must add **"thumb"** to your Model's Admin **list_display**. The thumbnail images are also linked to the full size view of the image. I found this **VERY** useful... hope someone else does as well.
A generic admin action to export selected objects as csv file. The csv file contains a first line with header information build from the models field names followed by the actual data rows. Access is limited to staff users. Requires django-1.1. **Usage:** Add the code to your project, e.g. a file called actions.py in the project root. Register the action in your apps admin.py: from myproject.actions import export_as_csv class MyAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): actions = [export_as_csv]
These functions use JQuery to dynamically add new entries for stacked or tabular inlines on a change form. To enable it, change the parent model to include this Javascript as well as JQuery.
