Admin change language

This snippet adds a select language drop down menu in the admin bar (just after Documentation link). For this approach it's necessary to copy from admin templates the admin/base.html to the project templates (keeping the admin directory), changing just line 25 ad shown. Then it's necessary to create specified admin/change_language.html template.

Django filter stack to cleanup WYSIWYG output

Django Template Tag Filter stack to clean up output from [widgEditor](http://www.themaninblue.com/experiment/widgEditor/) or other WYSIWYG text-input box. Removes arbitrary line break code and replaces with Django's cleaner `|linebreaks` filter. Also removes any arbitrary styling, leaving in things like bold, italic, link and image tags.

Filter change list by a date range

The Django admin site has a feature to filter objects in change list by parameters supplied in the query string. Particularly, parameters such as date\__gte and date\__lte can be used. This example is for filtering objects in change list by a date range (the date field is called expiration_date, but you can, of course, use any other name). As the server side (Django) already supports such filtering, all you need to do is to edit this for your needs (you can also add some DRY if you want) and put it into templates/admin/app_name/model_name/change_list.html. Some CSS for better layout: div.date_filter select#from_month, div.date_filter select#to_month { margin-left: 0; } div.date_filter label { margin-right: 5px; }

Twin column model admin index

**Problem:** A large project has lots of apps, so naturally you want a twin column admin interface, with the history out beyond those two columns... **Solution:** Involved editing the admin/index.html template, a simple modification to the adminapplist template tag, and a flag placed in each models.py for models you want in column two. **Instructions:** 1. Create the app templates/admin/index.html file by copying and pasting the provided code. 2. Copy django/contrib/admin/templatetags/adminapplist.py to your app/templatetags directory as column_adminapplist.py and edit as shown in the provided code. 3. add a \_admin\_index\_column = 2 near the top of each models.py file for each one you want to be on the right hand side.

Auto Generate/Save Thumbnails using Template Filter (scale max_x, max_y, or both)

Couldn't get the original to work, and wanted more functionality (scale on x or y coordinates) <img src="{{ object.image.url }}" alt="original image"> <img src="{{ object.image|thumbnail:"250w" }}" alt="image resized to 250w x (calculated/scaled)h "> <img src="{{ object.image|thumbnail:"250h" }}" alt="image resized to (calculated/scaled)w x 250h h "> <img src="{{ object.image|thumbnail:"250x200" }}" alt="image resized to 250wx200h "> <img src="{{ object.image|thumbnail }}" alt="image resized to default 200w (or whatever you default it to) format"> Original http://www.djangosnippets.org/snippets/192/ Adapted http://www.djangosnippets.org/snippets/955/ Sampled From: http://batiste.dosimple.ch/blog/2007-05-13-1/ http://vaig.be/2008/05/17/stdimagefield-improved-image-field-for-django/

Output sql_queries in Firebug console when in debug mode

Add this code to the end of the `<body>` of your main template and it will print out all your SQL queries with timings in the Firebug console. This uses the "django.core.context_processors.debug" template context processor, which requires that DEBUG=True and that your IP address is listed in INTERNAL_IPS.

"If in" templatetag

It's been a while, but I think I made this by copying and pasting the default {% if %} tag and modifying it. Does what it says, lets you test for inclusion in a list, in templates, like so: {% ifin item list %}.

language switcher in admin

you have a multilingual site and need to change languages in admin. Previously this was easy in the site itself and more difficult in admin. Now it is dead easy. Set up your languages in settings.py. Make a directory called 'admin' in your templates directory, copy ~/django/contrib/admin/templates/base.html to that directory. Add the following code (below breadcrumbs is a good place) this will give you a switcher for all installed languages. You would need to refresh the browser on changing the language.

  • admin
  • i18n
