Sane OneToOne getter

Since django insists on throwing a DoesNotExist rather than just returning a None from the far side of a null OneToOneField, I wrote this to have a sane way of getting those fields out without having to try/except all over in my code.

Image model with thumbnail

A relatively simple Photo model which generates its own thumbnail when saved. A default size is specified as `thumb_size` in the `save()` arguments. Other thumbnailing strategies don't save the thumbnail dimensions, and since the actual dimensions of the thumbnail created by PIL's `thumbnail` method are somewhat non-deterministic, it is difficult to create an `img` tag with proper height and width attributes. This approach makes that task simple. This approach works well if only one thumbnail size is required. It could easily be adapted to support two or three thumbnail sizes, but adding more sizes would quickly get unwieldy. This was adapted from http://biohackers.net/wiki/Django1.0/Thumbnail

Call a manager method on any model with a filter

Often I want to call a custom manager method in the template, something like Snippet.objects.get_latest(). I hate writing custom templatetags to do all that work, so instead I've written a filter that will work for any. Here's how I use it: {% for snippet in "cab.snippet"|call_manager:"top_rated"|slice:":5" %}

Simple Django event calendar template tag

I wanted a simple way to display events for a given month in a calendar, so I adapted some code to write a template tag. `Event` is the model class, and it needs to have a `date_and_time` field. Each event is part of a `Series`, so in the view you can filter events by which series, or display events for all known Series. [Full explanation and description of simple Django event calendar template tag](http://williamjohnbert.com/2011/06/django-event-calendar-for-a-django-beginner/).

Generic model filter from request GET data

You just use standart django query terms, for example: <form> <input class="field_text filter_from" type="text" name="cost__gte" placeholder="from" value="{% if request.GET.cost__gte %}{{ request.GET.cost__gte }}{% endif %}"> <input class="field_text filter_to" type="text" name="cost__lte" placeholder="to" value="{% if request.GET.cost__lte %}{{ request.GET.cost__lte }}{% endif %}"> </form> model: class Object(models.Model): cost = models.IntergerField() objects = ObjectManager()

View mixin and utils to generate PDF documents from html using xhtml2pdf

View mixin and utils to generate PDF documents from html using *xhtml2pdf*. The most interesting thing here is *PDFTemplateResponseMixin*. Adding this mixin to class based views allows automatic pdf generation using the view context and a customized template. There is also the lower level function *render_to_pdf*, similar to what can be seen in [snippet 659](http://djangosnippets.org/snippets/659/). See the docstrings for a detailed explanation.

A Lazy ModelChoiceField implementation

Sometimes we may need to generate a *ModelChoiceField* in which choices are generated at runtime, depending on the locale language. The snippet generates a *ChoiceField* based on a queryset and a specific attribute of the Model, ordering the choices by the attribute content in the locale language. **Usage example** (inside a form declaration) country = LazyModelChoiceField(sort_by='name', queryset = \ Country.objects.all, empty_label=_('All countries'), label=_('Country')) Based on lsbardel LazyChoiceField implementation (snippet 1767)

Autoload Django Models When Using ./manage.py shell

It's a pain to import all the Django models you want to use in the Python shell every time you start it. Here's how you can get IPython to autoload all your Django models for you every time you start the shell using ./manage.py shell. Put the code in a .py file in the root of your project. Then tell IPython to load the script in ~/.ipython/ipythonrc in the "Python files to load and execute" section.
